Where the Blog Starts

Have you ever wanted to do something, but kept putting it off for a better time?  Well that is my case with a blog.  I have wanted to do a blog for several years about what happens at the shop and in my sewing room.  But just keep making excuses on why it was not a good time.  I really think that it was the dread of learning something total out of my comfort zone.  But no more putting it off!!!

I think it will be a lot like learning to sew.  Lots of trial and error, before it really feels like second nature.  So hopefully I will not drive you too crazy as I try to learn about blogging.

So please come visit us at our website for a little shopping at Whittles Fabrics .(my first link)

Okay, how about a first picture:

Okay, that wasn't so bad.

Thanks again,
Cathy - Whittle Girl in case you were wondering.

  1. Congrats! I still haven't made the leap into blogland. But I am pretty good at buying online - particularly from your store! And for anyone reading this who hasn't bought from Whittles yet - you should! The prices, service and range are second to none!
    Thanks Cathy

  5. The quilt pattern I am loving lately is really the entire set of blocks from "Farmer's Wife" book. A group of my quilting buddies and I, are getting together once a month to work on the same blocks--supporting and encouraging each to accomplish the blocks for a throw size quilt. I am using all CW colors...I am going now to check out that pattern and line of fabrics you just posted to blog...
Hmmm-may have to make a purchase..

  6. For me it's all about fabric. I spend hours checking out the Whittle's site because the cost of fabric is so reasonable. It's difficult to buy from a store not because it's twice as expensive to shop. I love patterns, too, but I like collecting lots of fabric for projects. Right now I'm trying to get my scraps organized so they will be useful. I'm retiring this year so I plan to spend plenty of time with my machine, patterns and fabric.

  7. Love your store. Love the reasonable shipping charges. I am currently working on an adaptation of "Stars and Ribbons" by Art to Heart, which is in turn an adaptation of a traditional picket fence design. Right now it's my favorite pattern!

  12. Been looking at the beautiful Batiks lately and finally have found a pattern that I think shows their beauty off well. It is called "Splashes of Color" and it looks like it will sew up just "yummy". So now to look for fabric and I must say Whittles is one of my favorite online shops. Always lots of pretty fabrics at a price that I can afford and my order always arrives in perfect condition and just as nice as pictured. Keep up the good work Whittles.

  20. What fun. I usually don't do blogs, but I love Whittle Fabrics. I just finished quilting the third of five large baby quilts made from fabric that I bought last fall. There were five of us Ohio quilters traveling in my little camper for a quilt retreat. We had so much fun and now we have many quilts made from our finds at Whittles. Thanks for blogging.

  21. Oh, this is exciting! I love Whittle's Fabrics and now hope to enjoy your blog. I recently attended a quilt show and fell in love with Nancy Rink's Cocheco Mills Collection II quilt pattern and fabrics. I can't wait to start working on it! Thanks for the opportunity of getting another awesome pattern and fabrics.

  22. I love making star quilts so right now I am making one by Atkinson called Star Fling. I do need to get some more fabric as to make more variety to the stars and borders. I love shopping at your site and have found some great fabric in the past but money has been tight lately.

All the quilts I make go mostly to kids charity. Some go to Hospice and the Cancer Center.

  25. Thanks for sharing your quilt. I love that you referred to fabrics "singing"... I think that way too! I like the antique star pattern by Bonnie Blue Quilts, that you show in your gallery. Very nice, and a good way to use up smaller pieces. Glad to have found your website :)

  26. I'm currently working on a block with no name. I cut out a picture of a quilt quite a long time ago and recently used it to make up a pattern like it. I made it an 8-inch block and the end result looks like a heart. I'm making it with bright pastels. I was thinking I would make a baby quilt at first, but I just can't stop making blocks! I will be calling it the Heart Block since I don't know its real name.

  28. Oops! Forgot to say what I'm working on. I am currently working on a quilt for my Mom. We found a free pattern online she liked and bought fabric.
After completing 75 of the 120 four patch blocks required, I realized that I had used the wrong color fabric in every single one of them. Rip it! Rip it! Rip it!
So, finally done correcting the brown and ivory mix up and I'm off again.

  33. Hi Cathy - I never write on blogs, but yours is definitely an exception. My favorite pattern is generally the one I'm working on - which right now is Out of Time by Crazy Old Ladies - picked it up at your shop at my last visit. We are anxiously waiting for our newest great grandson to be born (any day now) and then up to Tn for a few weeks, so hope to see you and your Dad soon.

  36. Hello! I am new to blogs too. I even had to ask my friend, Karen in KY, how to post a comment. Being the good friend she is, she told me how (probably smiling and shaking her head as she typed the instructions to send me). We do a lot of ministry quilting from donated fabric in all sizes so scrappy quilts are some of my favorites. We recently did a string quilt that was paper pieced on triangles that when put together look like a box you can look into. I don't know what the pattern is called but I called it the Box Quilt. I love design/patterns/books and adapting them to the sizes we need.

  37. I am also new to blogs. I was in Whittles last week and easily spent 2 hours - I would have stayed longer if it wasn't closing time! I was glad to be able to buy several fabrics from the Garden Song line and am currently making my own design of applique around the panel which I already had. I hope to have it finished by the end of May for my sister's birthday. I am fairly new to quilting and enjoy working on smaller projects.

  39. Just now discovering the blog and shop! I think about blogging often, I enjoy writing letters, but the scary part for me is revealing too much, and the tech side ofit. Plus so many people start blogs and quit. I love reading interesting quilt blogs and get a peek at interesting projects. Have fun with this!
